Author Kaneana May recaps why this season of The Bachelor is going to be brilliantly addictive TV viewing.
1. SURVIVOR-STAR-COME-HUNKY-BACHELOR
Our hunky Bachelor this season is Locky from WA, who is best known for his time on Survivor. Other things to know: he runs an adventure company in Bali (cue some exciting ‘adventure-ish and rugged’ dates), he claims he’s a hopeless romantic and believes in love at first sight. Sounds like a hero we’ll all want to cheer for.
2. COPING WITH COVID
The producers of The Bach 2020 were forced to send all the contestants home when COVID-19 hit – and as a result the production team had to adjust. Their solution was ‘Love in Lockdown’. We haven’t seen this before, so let’s see how love copes with lockdown. We might be pleasantly surprised.
3. LOVE TRIANGLE
The season promo tells us he falls in love with two women and we see footage of Locky breaking down as he says he doesn’t know who to choose. Ekk! Exciting. Who doesn’t love a love triangle?
4. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
In the season promo, we hear him claim that he’s ‘loved her from the first time he saw her’. Who doesn’t want to watch and try to pick who he’s fallen in love with from the very first episode?
5. DRESSES
2020 has been the year of ‘ugg boots and trackies’ more than ‘dress to impress’. With all our own favourite frocks still hanging in our cupboards this year, why not gush about the spectacular (and not so spectacular) dresses on screen?
6. GALS WITH ’TUDE
Areeba, Zoe-Clare and Laura have all made it clear they’re ready to ‘game on’ – which will no doubt bring some of the drama we’re used to in a good old Bachy franchise (but hopefully the satisfaction when they don’t win Locky’s heart will come soon enough).
7. SWOON
We have girls swooning left, right and centre at Locky’s charm and good looks. This will no doubt cause there to be added tensions and girls fighting hard for his attention.
8. WORLD-WIDE BACHELOR FIRST
They’ve brought in the Triple Threat Rose, which allows one girl to win herself three consecutive dates with Locky. The girl will get a one-on-one date, followed by a place on a group date, and then an invitation to the Bachelor Pad alone. Locky hands this killer advantage in the race to win his heart to … Nicole, the professional dancer, who he does a Dirty Dancing lift with.
9. CONTESTANT TAKEN ILL
One of the girls doesn’t make the rose ceremony (but still gets a rose). Is this code for ‘she got too drunk’ at the cocktail party? As you watch, can you guess who this might be?
10. NEW CONTESTANT/INTRUDER
We see the preview for tomorrow night’s ep and on the fun photo shoot group date (which is always a backdrop), a new girl arrives. She’s in a bridal gown and the rest of the girls aren’t happy. Pretty sure we’re going to see some sparks fly with Locky.
There’s plenty of girls to watch, but I’m going to call it early and predict that Bella is going to make the final four. Who else wants to place a bet?
