What is Galentine’s Day?
Pioneered in the comedy show Parks and Recreation , Galentine’s Day, celebrated on February 13th, is the day for celebrating female friendships!
A day for gathering with your besties, having a glass (or two) of bubbly, eating some good food and having a laugh.
There’s no pressure for the perfect gift, or to have the perfect romantic date. It’s honestly better than the *real* Valentine’s Day.
Looking to have your own Galentine’s celebration this year? Here are some ideas for you!
1. Have a boozy brunch
Is there anything better than spending a few hours enjoying good food and great company? Find a gorgeous cafe in your favourite suburb, and settle in for a long (potentially boozy) brunch. Enjoy your sweet or savoury (or both) breakfast, have a mimosa (or three) and laugh the hours away.
2. Treat yourselves to a ~fancy~ high tea
Booking a high tea celebration at a cafe or hotel is the perfect excuse to get dressed up in your cutest floaty spring dress (with a large hat) and spend an hour or so drinking tea and eating scones. You can even make it an *extra* special occasion with some champagne!
3. Enjoy a movie night
Looking for a more low key way to celebrate Galentine’s Day? Invite your nearest and dearest over, microwave some popcorn, make some cocktails, dish up a cheeseboard, and watch your favourite movies together. You can choose to watch a romantic comedy classic like Bridget Jones’s Diary or Valentine’s Day, or you can skip the romance altogether and watch a movie all about female friendship like Bridesmaids or Booksmart.
4. Share gifts that celebrate your friendship
If your love language is gift giving, use Galentine’s Day as an excuse to buy a small gift for each of your friends that shows your affection for them. The perfect gift (we think) is a great new book!
5. Write a letter to each of your friends and tell them why you love them
Love writing and expressing your feelings through the written word? Grab some lux stationary and hand write each of your friends a letter expressing why you love them! Lengthy letter writing is somewhat a lost art, and it’s a personal gift they’ll treasure forever.
6. Buy flowers for your besties
How often does someone buy you flowers? It can be a small but meaningful moment when someone gifts you a beautiful thing, and flowers are the perfect ‘Valentine’s’ themed gift you can get your friends this year!
7. Have a low key (or high key) picnic
Galentine’s day falls on a Sunday this year, so it’s a wonderful excuse to get outside into the sunshine and have a picnic! Simply grab a picnic rug, and some snacks, and you’re good to go! Or you can get a little more *bougie* and bring your travel cheeseboard, some wine, and your lawn bowls set. Picnic away!
8. Go for a long walk
Love just having long conversations with your friends? Find your nearest bush or coastal walk, and enjoy a wonderfully intimate 4 hour long conversation where you can relish the time catching up and enjoying the luxury of one another’s company.
Happy Galentine’s Day everyone!
