Titanic Turns 25 This Month, So Here’s What To Read Based On Your Titanic Hot Take

Titanic, you know, that one movie directed by James Cameron, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in February. Released in 1997, it made Jack and Rose’s story one of the most epic romances of our time and gave new light to the tragic sinking of The RMS Titanic.

In celebration of the movie, movie theatres across Australia will be showing screenings from the 10th of February. If you’re not quite ready to sit through 3 hours and 16 minutes, because you need to save on tissues or can’t stomach hearing ‘I’m the King of the World!’ even one more time, we have the book recommendations that will make sure your heart will go on.

Your favourite character was Lewis Bodine.

No one would blame you for not recognising this character by name alone. Lewis Bodine is the delightful crew mate at the beginning of the movie that gave Rose, well, a colourful description of the Titanic’s final hours above water. The fact that the gear he operates is also called ‘ROV Snoop Dog’ makes him an icon in our humble opinion.

You loved Jack’s drawings.

We get it: who doesn’t love an artistic temperament in a love interest? Especially if he’s interested in drawing you like one of his French girls.

Read: Need You Tonight by Leisl Leighton

Not even fame will protect him from her violent past.

Reclusive music producer, Lexi Deningham, has worked hard to escape a violent past, building her reputation so world famous rock stars come to her at her isolated recording studio in the Victorian High Country. That includes the wildly talented Daemon Flagherty who has just arrived to discuss his band’s next album. After a messy divorce, all Daemon wants is to focus on his music, even if that means going to the end of the world to work with the best, albeit mysterious, music producer there is.

When Lexi gets a call from her twin sister’s secure mental health hospital telling her Cat has been attacked, Lexi has no choice but to bring her twin home. Lexi isn’t ready to deal with both Cat and Daemon at the same time but if she wants to work with Daemon – and she does, desperately – she has no choice.

Romance should be the last thing on their minds, but it seems that neither Lexi nor Daemon can ignore the passion between them. Until the threat from Lexi’s past comes crashing into the present, determined to make her pay and with no care for who might get in the way. Lexi is used to going it alone, but will she realise she needs help before it’s too late?

You thought the people in steerage knew how to party.

While Kate Winslet is gorgeous in all her period costumes throughout this moving, there’s nothing quite like the moment she kicks off her shoes to join the ‘commoners’ in a jaunty Irish jig.

The string quartet deserved a better ending.

These men provided the soundtrack for the crisis unfolding and, arguably, were some of the bravest people throughout the movie. We applaud anyone who can face tragedy by providing comfort for those around them.

If you think Jack could have fit on the door.

It’s a hot button issue, one so regularly debated that it has now involved National Geographic in an attempt to answer. In my opinion, it doesn’t seem like there’s conclusive evidence if Jack only tried to get on the door once. Just saying.

We understand that Rose probably isn’t as concerned with inflation as the rest of us right now, but surely Rose should be a little more concerned about her assets?
